Who is AusBiotech?

AusBiotech is Australia’s biotechnology industry organisation working on behalf of over 3,000 members in the areas of bio-therapeutics, medical technology (devices and diagnostics), food technology, industrial and agricultural, for 30 years.

What is the International Biotechnology Symposium (IBS) 2016?

IBS is organised under the auspices of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) since 1960 and is the most representative biotechnology event at the global level, at which participants congregate from academia and industry, to explore the advances and frontiers of science and applied biotechnologies.
 
IBS intends to present and promote the relevant contribution that chemistry provides to the development of biotechnological research and industry. It provides key presentations and forums to help bring together representatives and professionals from across the biotechnology industry and the globe to experience a comprehensive conference program, extensive bio-industry exhibition, business matching program and associated events.

 

What is the International BioFest 2016?

International BioFest 2016 will be the largest-ever gathering in Australian life sciences, with three major conferences coming together in one week in one place as one integrated network.

The International BioFest 2016 will comprise:

  • IBS 2016, the 17th International Biotechnology Symposium and Exhibition;
  • AusBiotech 2016, Australia’s life sciences conference; and
  • Australia Biotech Invest 2016, Australia’s life sciences investment and partnering showcase.

When is the International Biotechnology Symposium 2016?

This conference runs officially from Monday 24 - Thursday 27 Ocotber 2016.

 

Where will conference sessions be held?

All conference sessions are held at the Melbourne Convention Centre (also referred to as MCC).

 

Where will the conference dinner be held?

The conference dinner location will be announced shortly and will be a joint International BioFest celebration.
Conference Registrations do not include the Conference Dinner, dinner tickets can be purchased for $120 during the registration process or after at a seperate time by contacting the Registrations Department.  

 

How much will the 2016 conference cost?

What's included in my conference registration fee?

Full access to the BioIndustry Exhibition Hall and morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas are included in the registration fee as per program schedule as well as daily conference sessions with informative and entertaining speakers.  Social events on Monday 24 - 27 Ocotber 2016 are included, the conference dinner is extra.
Full conference registrations include access to the Business Matching Program and must be selected during the resgistration process.

Delegates are able to upgrade their registraions to include other International BioFest events.

 

What is the dress code for the conference?

During the conference days, business attire is preferred.  The minimum dress standard for the Welcome Reception and the Conference Dinner is business attire or cocktail.

The changeable weather of spring continues in October, there is greater contrast between the warmer and colder days than in the preceding month. The maximum temperature exceeds 25ºC once a week. However, it also fails to reach 15ºC once a week. There are several cloudy to overcast days and many days are windy. Most strong winds are northerly and warm, but there are occasionally strong cold southwest winds bringing showery conditions. Warm windy weather may be followed by a sudden change to colder conditions with showers. Rain falls on almost one day in two, some of it heavy.

Additional tickets can be purchased for the Conference Dinner, Tuesday 25 October 2016.  You can register on-line or contact the registration manager.

Tickets to the Welcome Reception are available only to full conference registrants, speakers and exhibitors as confirmed at point of registration.

Are hotel transfers available?

All hotels listed on this website via our Accomodation Partner are within close proximity to the convention centre.  Therefore transfers to and from the hotels to the convention centre will not be provided.

 

What advertising opportunities are available?

There are three opportunities;  1. Pocket Program, 2. Australian Biotechnology journal (AusBiotech conference edition published October 2016), 3. Invitation Letter for Visa Application

Delegates must have registered and paid the required registration fees before requesting an official letter of invitation.  All requests should be sent by email to the Registrations Department on [email protected].  Please note that AusBiotech will not be able to contact or intervene with any Embassy or Consulate office on behalf of a delegate.

 

Is AusBiotech Membership required to attend the conference?

No, but we encourage you to become a member.  

If you join AusBiotech within 30 days of the conference, the difference in registration fees will be refunded to you - after the conference is concluded. (This offer is valid for IBS 2016 conference delegate fees only and does not apply retrospectively to sponsorship or exhibition packages). Become an AusBiotech Member and enjoy membership prices to the conference, as well as the opportunity to take future exhibition and sponsorship packages at reduced rates, along with the many other benefits that membership brings.

When do early bird rates end?

Early bird registration closes at midnight on 15 July 2016, after which time the standard rate will apply.

 

When is the cut-off date for registrations?

Whilst we do prefer registrations to be in prior to Monday 10 Ocotber 2016, you can register on the day of the conference at the Registration Desk, onsite at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

 

Can I share my registration?

As outlined in the registration terms and conditions, conference registrations cannot be  shared by individuals, even if from the same organisation. Group registration discounts and 1-day registration options are provided for this purpose.

 

What is the cancellation policy?

All cancellation requests must be made in writing to AusBiotech at [email protected]

1. Cancellations made before Friday 10 July 2016 will receive a refund, less a $250 administration fee.
2. Cancellations made after 10 July 2016, will not receive a refund.
3. No refunds will be issued until after the conference.
4. Substituting names will be accepted only prior to the conference.  Registration is valid for the named attendee only.  Transferring of registration during the conference is prohibited and security personnel will be checking every registration on entry/exhit to the venue.  Substituting a delegate from the same organisation is welcome as long as AusBiotech is notified by email [email protected] by Monday 10 October 2016.
