Tyrosine is a building block for the neurotransmitter serotonin, one of our brain's chemical messengers. The brain also produces tryptophan from blood, which are converted to serotonin by the oral jelly enzyme known as tryptophan hydroxylase. The most important enzyme found in the liver, known as tryptase, is responsible for converting tryptophan into the more easily digestible compound, tyrosine.
